Delhi airport

New Delhi is the capital of india and the 10th most populous city in the world. Delhi's airport(IGI airport) is busiest airport in india and south asia which serve most international and domestic flights. Some point are describe below for complete information: 
  • In 1930, Britisher built Safdarjung airport for their most military operations and some for civilian but due to increase in passenger traffic civilian operation were shifted to palam airport, Delhi.
  •  In 1962, palam airport was maitained by india air force. airport peak capacity was 1300 passenger per hour.
  •  In 1986, the second terminal  was inaugurated and renamed as indira gandhi international airport. indira gandhi  was second women in the world who hold the position of head in government after sirimavo bandaranaike of shri lanka. She became prime minister consecutively for three time. 
  • In 2006, airport management was handed to private organisation that is GMR group, airports authority of india and some stake to other organisation.
  • In 2010, Terminal 3 was inaugurated by chief minister of delhi which handle overall 20 million passenger per year. This terminal awarded as 8th largest passenger terminal in world.
  • In 2011, Indira gandhi international airport awarded as second best airport in the world in category of 25-40 million passenger handling.

There are 61 airlines offer domestic and international flights for passengers and 20 cargo services is also in use.
